Eight Months

The last month has flown by, and Ezra is now 8 months old!
We're participating in a mother/baby nutrition study, so I know that he weighed 15 pounds, 10 ounces and was (still!) 25" long last Friday. Percentile calculators using the WHO growth charts say his percentiles are 3.9 for height and 18.4 for weight based on his due date. (And evidently he's on the weight charts for actual age - the 4.5th percentile for an 8 month old.)
So big!
We kind of can't believe he's that low on the percentile scale for weight because he seems so chunky! This month, people at church keep commenting on how healthy and fat he looks. Maybe he just seems chunky because he's apparently short.

This month, Ezra wears 6-9 month clothes most comfortably. Most manufacturers don't make that size though, so he's wearing a mix of 6 month, 9 month, 6-9 month, or 6-12 month outfits. He rarely wears shoes, but his feet outgrew the size 0 shoes and now fit the second smallest baby shoe size. In diapers, he's kind of between snap settings. We adjusted the rise settings to the middle snap pretty consistently.

It's been a fun month developmentally. He hasn't started crawling, but in the last week or so, Ezra has started doing serial rolls and scoots to get himself across a room. Oh no, semi-mobile baby!
Moving is hard work.

It's been a bit of a frustrating month for Ezra, as he seems to be in the midst of a big physical developmental leap that is taking some time physically but not mentally. He spends a lot of time frustrated about not being mobile, and he seems to really like being upright even though he can't sit on his own quite yet. He likes to sit and stand up with assistance.

Being cute, opening the cabinet, trying to share Daddy's drink.
He seems less intrigued by his activity gym and more excited about manipulating objects with his hands (and chewing on things) and excited about a new toy. He likes to shake toys that make noise. He likes to grab people's faces and hair, and is upset that he can't ever seem to touch Mirror Baby because there's glass in the way. He developed object permanence, as evidenced by the fact that he'll look for a toy he dropped out of sight.

This month, Ezra got two teeth! There was a lot of drool, a lot of chewing on Daddy's finger (and anything else), and only a little bit of Tylenol.

He also just had his first cold. We were worried and watched closely, but he got sick last Wednesday and seemed to be mostly better by Monday. I got the same thing four days before him and am still coughing, so I guess the antibodies in breast milk worked out well.

He is still sleeping wonderfully - 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. most nights. Usually without waking to nurse or anything. A high-quality baby, I think. When he is sleepy, he makes a protracted "enh" noise. His preferred activity upon waking up is making a similar noise, very loudly, and grabbing at or whacking my face.

And more and more, we're getting genuine giggles! Kissing his tummy or pretending to eat his fingers does it every time. So cute!
