The big ONE!

Ezra turned ONE this week!

For Ezra's birthday, I took the day off work and we went to the Denver Children's Museum. They have an area that is just for babies. It's like a little forest. Very cute, and lots of fun for him to explore a place with nothing dangerous to him. Then we went to lunch together and, after a nap, got Ezra a cupcake. And then he had a bath.

 

At his 12 month checkup on Wednesday, Ezra weighed 18lb 6.4oz and was 28.5" long. He's in about the 10th percentiles for height and weight for actual age and about the 25th percentile for adjusted age. But his big ol' noggin is in the 79th percentile for actual age and the 90th for adjusted age! Lots of brains in there!

So that means that this year, Ezra has gained 15lb 4.5 ounces and 13 inches. He is almost six times his birth weight and has nearly doubled in height. That's a lot of growing for one year! He didn't really want to cooperate for his 12 month pictures, but we got a few of him with a picture of himself at a few days old. That picture is a 4x6 and it is very close to life size. How crazy is that?! 

At every visit to the pediatrician, we fill out developmental questionnaires. They ask about what kinds of things a baby is doing to assess gross motor, fine motor, verbal, and social skills. We filled out the 12 month one and the 9 month one this time. Ezra's pediatrician said he is scoring normally on motor skills for a 12 month old baby and at 10-11 months verbally and socially. 

He is cruising around furniture with great balance. He can bend down and get something, he kneels a little bit, and we know he doesn't really need to hold on anymore, but he does. He climbs the back of the couch too. He still crawls around on his belly, but can do the crawl on all fours for a step or two. Mostly in the bathtub when he doesn't want water in his face. He will not walk holding onto someone's hands.

We only noticed this past week, but we think he is now saying "mama" and "dada" sometimes. He babbles both of those sounds, especially dadadada, but they are sometimes just two syllables and seem to have meaning. I think he also sometimes says "nanana" or "ning" when he wants to nurse. Both Ross and I thought we saw him sign "more" one time, but maybe not.

He is starting to get all four of his 1-year molars, so he is drooling and biting and gnawing a lot these days. Most of his favorite toys right now are things he can chew on. He loves going for rides in the stroller and looking out the window at the trees. He also likes to climb the stairs (supervised, of course) and laughs and laughs when we play "I'm gonna get you!"
